Is burnt salt similar to rust?

When you add salt to a hot container placed on a stove, it turns brown just like rust. Is it safe to eat such salt? I mean when you are adding the ingredients to the pot/container, you shouldn’t be adding salt directly to the hot container, but if you did, and ate the burnt salt what would happen?

Not it isn’t similar to rust, that is asinine.

Scorched or burnt salt would be terrible to eat, or just taste.
