Rust Aluminum Siding

Can you use fuel injection lines (rubber with steel belting inside) for gas lines in cars (tank—> motor)?
My car had metal (aluminum or steel, dont know which) lines to carry gas from the tank to the motor. I saw drippings off the passenger side of the car, under the passenger seat. It was gasoline. I took the car for repairing the lines. They tore the line out after saying it had rusted thru, and I saw it was metal. They replaced the line with the tubing the guy said was used for fuel injection lines. It was rubber with a steel belt around the inside space and it was ok to use it
Is that the way gas lines are supposed to be?
I wouldnt, the area under the car where the gas lines run is subject to more wear and tear, road debris thrown up etc.
The car company’s use whatever is the most appropriate material, rubber would be easier and cheaper for them, so if they use steel, they do it for a good reason.
You should be able to buy the line complete from an auto parts store or the dealer.
