Rust Gold

Will 14 Kt gold go black or rust?
I bought a 20 inch 14kt gold over sterling silver italian chain at target. The thick chain was $30 and the thin chain was around $15 or $20. Will these chains go black or rust even though it says 14kt gold over sterling silver?
It depends on several things. First, on whether the gold over the sterling is white gold or yellow gold. 2nd: if the gold metal overlay comes off the silver, then, there is a chance that the silver would tarnish and turn black. But that would probably only be in spots, and take many years to happen unless you are wearing the chain 24/7. They will NEVER rust. Gold and silver don’t rust. Silver will tarnish, but gold will never change color if it is 10k, 14k, 18k, or 24k. But the problem with white gold is that it can change in appearance because it is an alloy metal, not a pure metal. You would probably have to polish the neclaces to keep them looking silver…IF, they are white gold, because of that fact.
