Electronic Rust Control Systems

VAN will not keep charge! HELP!!?
I have a 89 Chevy V6 work van. I left a dome light on one night and had to give it a charge with a battery charger. The terminals were rusted and it didn’t work on the low charge so I put it on the high charge and ended up frying the electrical system. The van starts up fine but slowly winds down and then fights to stay alive before it cuts out. It stays running fine when I have the charger hooked up but winds down when I pull it off the terminals. My brother reved the engine hard a few times and now I have a hard ping coming from the lower block. I replaced the rusty battery terminals, replaced the battery, had the alternator checked at AutoZone (internal voltage regulator), replaced the electronic spark control module with a new one and I replaced the computer with one from a junkyard. When I replaced the computer it ran fine until I put it in reverse and it died on me. After that it was back to the same thing (?????).
try re building and replacing the original Alternator
